Our story

Molino AG was founded in Zurich in 1988 by Alfred Steiner with the idea of bringing the traditions and hospitality of southern Europe to Switzerland. The first restaurant opened that year in Uster. Italian food was immediately popular, so more Pizzeria Ristorante went on to open in German-speaking Switzerland, including in 1998 the Molino Select on the Limmat riverside quay in the city of Zurich. Since 1993 Molino has also been very successful in western Switzerland. This means that the Molino ethos of “Italianità per tutti” remains one of the few gastronomic concepts that is equally popular in both French- and German-speaking Switzerland.

Today, after over 35 years and with 21 Pizzeria Ristorante Molino restaurants in the French and German parts of Switzerland, the Ristorante Frascati in Zurich and the Le Lacustre restaurant in Geneva, along with pizzerias in popular ski resorts such as Zermatt and Crans-Montana, the Ospena Group Ltd has established itself as a highly successful provider of authentic Italian cuisine. Since 2014 it has been part of the Migros Cooperatives in Zurich and Geneva. A Swiss success story that’s bursting with Italianità!
